Czech Film Week 2011
After last year’s success the Czech Centre Tel Aviv presents the Czech Film Week 2011. This year we were able to enrich the list of films to 7 feature films and 1 documentary film. The Czech Film Week will be exclusively open by the film Lidice whose premiere has been shown in Czech Republic in June 2011.
The Czech Centre Tel Aviv together with the Embassy of the Czech Republic invite you to the Czech Film Week 2011, which will be open on August 21 at the Jerusalem Cinematheque and August 22 at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque. After last year’s success we were able to enrich the list of films that we are going to present this year to 7 feature films and 1 documentary film. The Czech Film Week will be exclusively open by the film Lidice whose premiere has been shown in Czech Republic in June 2011. This film describes a tragic period of the Czech history under the Nazi occupation, which followed the heroic act of Reinhard Heydrich’s assassination by the Czechoslovak paratroopers.
Alongside the films with historic themes Tobruk and the documentary Our Outcast Patriots of Tobruk we are presenting stories reflecting contemporary life in the Czech society as well as multigenerational films (Bastards, The Rafters). As last year, we brought films directed by women filmmakers An Earthy Paradise for the Eyes and Mamas and Papas. Both of these directors received significant awards at international film festivals.
We are very happy to introduce to the Israeli public the best of the actual Czech film production as well as some of the creators. The opening event will be held in the presence of the producer Adam Dvorak, who will address the audience and speak about the long process of the film making of the story of Lidice that took nearly 3 generations to be presented to the public.
Apart from films depicting the critical view of the contemporary society we are happy to present stories whose director is life itself The Greatest Czechs describing the struggle for recognition of talented and honored young filmmakers.
The Czech Film Week 2011 has been prepared in the cooperation and great help of the Israel Cinematheques.
